 ULA wishes everyone a happy 2009 with a plenty of Peace & Prosperity. Still within the fiscal year of research and publications, ULA wishes more and more academically sound research will be conducted by its membership this year. In view of this objective, ULA wishes to remind about its past and future activities. The association took action towards registering it as a trade union. ULA successfully completed an Achievers' Colloquium last month. Meanwhile two training programmes for para professionals were conducted. The ULA Newsletter was out in October, 2008. There will be another newsletter coming in January this year. A JULA issue is also in the cards. The Annual Research Conference will also be held along with the Annual General Meeting. A research grant and travel grants are still open. These are offered to encourage ULA membership to do more research and publications. |

Special Librarians group of the Sri Lanka Library Association has organised a workshop on Information Security Awareness Programme for Librarians and other personnel in charge of information handling.
Date: 16th of January, 2009.
Time: 9a.m. – 4p.m.
Venue: Samudra Hotel of Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, No 78, Galle Road, Colombo 03. More information can be obtained from the SLLA office (Tel: 0112589103). |

We offer 15 January 2009 as the deadline to receive papers for JULA. This applies to full papers of presentations made at the Achievers Colloquium too. Articles/News for the next issue of ULA News are also welcome before this date. Please take these deadlines seriously, and papers received after the deadline will not be considered for publication. |

The second achievers colloquium of ULA was held on Friday, 05th of December displaying valuable achievements obtained by 17 ULA members. It was a demonstration of great heights our University Librarians are reaching in the course of obtaining professional excellence. Mr.Harrison Perera, President ULA inaugurated the ceramony with a brief introduction. Dr. Jayantha Ratnasekara of Quality Assurance & Accreditation Council of the University Grants Commission - the Chief Guest - mentioned how valuable research is for librarians. He stated that to better facilitate patrons for research, librarians themselves must have a research background. |
